Connecting with young people
While young people are an important part of families, they are also a separate group with their own requirements and information needs
We recognise that young people want to access information in a way that speaks directly to them, and that their participation in voicing their needs and shaping the way they access information about positive activities and things to do in their local area is crucial.
For example, we worked with Darlington Borough Council to overhaul their existing website –consulting with a group of local teenagers in focus groups and media exercises for them to feed into the design process to create a new website.
We’ve also run social media workshops with students from a local college to train them as social reporters and create films of their findings.
We know how to work with young people and find out how they want to receive information about positive activities – fulfilling your statutory requirements and providing the right information in a way that they’ll actually use it.
“It was great fun and we got a rare chance to spend time working with web developers"

In November 2008, we held a conference on engaging with young people through social media - read about the positive feedback and view films and slides
